Tile Match
Match three treats, clear the whole pile
How to play
Tile Match on Matsuri is a free online triple tile matching puzzle: tap sweet tiles off a layered pile into a seven-slot tray, and three of a kind vanish. Every pile can be cleared. It runs in any browser on phone or desktop and inside Telegram via @MatsuriGamesBot, no download. Everyone gets the same daily pile, and a challenge link gives a friend your exact board.
A tile matching puzzle in the style of Triple Tile and Tile Explorer. Sweet tiles lie in overlapping layers; tap a tile that nothing covers and it hops into the 7-slot tray, next to its twins. Three of a kind vanish. Clear the whole pile before the tray fills up. Every board is dealt so it can be cleared, and you get one undo and one shuffle per run. Play the daily to race everyone on the same pile, or send a friend your run.
- Click a bright tile (nothing on top of it) to move it to my tray.
- Three matching sweets in the tray get eaten up; don't let all 7 slots fill!
- You get one undo (U) and one shuffle (S) per run, each costs points. Clear the whole pile to win.
How to play Tile Match
Each board is a pile of 90 to 120 square tiles, always a whole number of triples, stacked in six to nine layers that sit half a tile off one another, with 11 to 13 kinds of sweets. A tile is free when no tile on a higher layer overlaps it; covered tiles look dimmer, and there is no side rule. Tapping a free tile moves it into the tray at the bottom, next to any twins already there, and three of the same sweet in the tray vanish. Empty the pile and the tray to win. If the tray ever holds seven tiles, the run is over.
Each triple scores 10. A triple cleared within three picks of the previous one builds a combo worth 5 more per step, up to 30 for a triple. Clearing the board adds 1000. Each run has one undo, which sends the last tile you picked that is still in the tray back to its place, and one shuffle, which re-deals the sweets still on the pile. Each costs 100.
Tile Match strategy and tips
- Before a tap, scan for a sweet with all three copies free, or for a tile whose removal uncovers the twin you are waiting for. A pick that does neither just takes a tray slot.
- Keep the tray at four tiles or fewer. At five or six, only take a tile that completes a triple, even if it means leaving a promising stack alone for now.
- Because each layer sits half a tile off the one below, a single top tile can rest on as many as four others. Clear those first: one pick there frees more of the board than a tile at the edge.
- Combos come from rhythm. With two pairs waiting in the tray and both third tiles free, finish them back to back to climb the combo, but never collect pairs whose partners are still buried.
- A helper costs 100, while a full tray throws away the 1000 for clearing the board. Undo right after a pick you regret, and keep the shuffle for when no free tile matches anything in the tray.
Modes and difficulty
The daily pile is the same for everyone and changes at 00:00 UTC; only your first try counts on the daily leaderboard. Practice deals a new pile as often as you like, and every pile has its own shape, from diamonds and rings to crosses and twin towers. After a run you can send it as a challenge, and your friend plays the same pile with your score to beat. There are no difficulty settings or levels.
Playing Tile Match on Matsuri
Each pile is dealt backwards from a removal order that never needs more than five tray slots, so a board is never unwinnable from the start, and the shuffle deals again under the same rule. Tile Match is one of the games that take turns hosting the weekly Matsuri Cup, where your best practice score that week counts. Scores are rebuilt on the server from your taps, and Telegram groups get their own leaderboard.
A little history
Triple tile matching grew out of mahjong solitaire, trading pairs for threes and adding a tray that punishes careless taps. Mobile games such as Tile Explorer and Triple Tile spread the format, and in 2022 the Chinese mini-game Sheep a Sheep became a nationwide craze, known for a second level that almost nobody could clear.
