Click Speed Test
How many taps can you fit in 5 seconds?
How to play
This is a free click speed test, also called a CPS test or tap speed test: click, tap or press Space as many times as you can in 5 or 10 seconds and see your clicks per second (CPS). Your best is kept and there is a daily board. It runs in any browser on a phone or a computer, and inside Telegram through @MatsuriGamesBot, with no download or sign-up.
A click speed test, also called a CPS test or tap speed test. Pick 5 or 10 seconds, then click, tap or press the Space bar as fast as you can: the clock starts with your first tap. When time is up you see your clicks per second (CPS), the total and your best. A computer can use the mouse or the Space bar (a key held down counts once, as it should); a phone or tablet counts every tap, two fingers too. Most people manage 5 to 8 taps a second; 10 and over is fast. The server checks every result: more than 20 a second, or a rhythm too even for a hand, as an auto clicker makes, does not count.
- Pick 5 or 10 seconds, then click or press Space as fast as you can. The clock starts with your first click.
- A key held down counts once; only real presses count. When time is up you see your clicks per second (CPS).
- More than 20 a second, or a rhythm as even as an auto clicker's, is not counted.
How the click speed test (CPS test) works
Pick 5 seconds or 10 seconds, then start clicking: the clock starts with your first click, tap or press of the Space bar, and a bar shows the time left. Every press counts once. When the time is up, the test shows your taps per second (CPS), your total and your best. CPS is simply the taps divided by the seconds, so 37 clicks in 5 seconds is 7.4 CPS.
On a computer you can use the mouse, a trackpad or the Space bar; a key held down counts only once, because the repeats a keyboard sends by itself are not presses. On a phone or tablet every tap counts, two fingers or two thumbs taking turns included.
The server checks every result: more than 20 taps a second, or a rhythm so even that it can only be a program, as an auto clicker makes, is not counted. People never tap at exactly the same interval; a script does.
How to click faster: CPS tips
- Use two fingers. On a phone, alternate your thumbs or two fingers; on a mouse, many fast clickers rest two fingers on the left button and alternate them (often called butterfly clicking). Alternating fingers is the easiest way past about 8 CPS.
- Keep your hand relaxed and the movement small. Tension makes you slower within a few seconds; a light, short tap from the fingertip keeps the pace for the whole test.
- Pick your window: 5 seconds rewards a fast start, 10 seconds shows how well you keep your pace. Most people score a little higher on the short one.
- Try the Space bar on a computer. Some people tap faster on a key with two alternating fingers than on a mouse button, and a held key does not count, so it stays fair.
- Take breaks. Very fast clicking for long stretches is hard on fingers and wrists, and a rested hand is quicker anyway.
Modes and difficulty
Practice lets you pick 5 or 10 seconds and play as often as you like; your best CPS is kept. The daily test is 5 seconds, the same for everyone, changes at 00:00 UTC, and only your first try of the day counts on its board. Any result can be sent to a friend as a challenge in the same window.
Playing Click Speed Test on Matsuri
Most people manage about 5 to 8 taps a second; 10 and over is fast, and only practised clickers using two fingers get well past 12. A run of more than 14 a second waits for a person to look at it before it goes on a board, and the server replays every tap time it is sent. On a touch screen each finger counts, and on a keyboard only real presses do.
A little history
Pressing a button as fast as possible became a skill of its own with arcade and home video games. In Japan, Takahashi Meijin became famous in the 1980s for pressing a controller button about 16 times a second, and a toy watch made to measure button presses in 10 seconds followed. Today CPS tests are popular with players of fast PC games, Minecraft PvP in particular, where click speed matters, and with anyone who wants to see how quick their fingers are.

Questions
- What is a good CPS?
- Most people click about 5 to 8 times a second. 10 CPS and more is fast, and only practised clickers using two fingers get well past 12.
- Does holding down the Space bar count?
- No. A held key counts once: the repeats a keyboard sends by itself are not presses. Press and release the Space bar for every click, as you would a mouse button.
- Can I use an auto clicker?
- No. Results over 20 clicks a second, or with a rhythm too even for a hand, are not counted, and very high scores are checked by a person before they go on a board.
- Should I pick 5 or 10 seconds?
- Either. 5 seconds rewards a quick burst and is the daily test; 10 seconds shows how well you keep your pace. CPS is taps divided by seconds, so the two compare directly, though most people score a little higher on 5.
- Is this click speed test free, and does it work on a phone?
- Yes. It is free with no download or sign-up, and works in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and inside Telegram through @MatsuriGamesBot. On a touch screen every finger counts.
